Block Imports: Innotekhmet Readies Its First Foreign Sales

Main Unit

ОIndustrial Group Innovative Metalworking Technologies (PO Innotekhmet, Kaluga Region) was one of National Industrial Award INDUSTRIA-2018 finalists.

The company specializes in precision high tech metalworking. It also designs and manufactures complex non-rotational parts from stainless and heat-resistant steel. Innotekhmet captured the INDUSTRIA nomination with its novel technology for the production of drive and stationary units for CNC equipment.

The innovation, which was duly appreciated by the Award Board, relies on the application of a special alloy developed by Innotekhmet in collaboration with Russian steelworks. The alloy is used in the production of main blocks for drive units and allows for a reduction in equipment size, longer lifespan, and higher corrosion resistance.

"Foreign manufacturers of similar products use regular structural steel which does not allow for working with new hard-to-handle materials, e.g. composite, heat-resistant, and hard alloys. We managed to resolve this issue,"

Igor Dzhikaev, General Director of PO Innotekhmet LLC, stated.

Currently, Innotekhmet manufactures drive and stationary units by piece, but up until recently the Russian industrialists could procure such hardware exclusively from foreign companies, i.e. the equipment was 100% imported.

Innotekhmet products are used by the Irkut Corporation for wing treatment of its MC-21 airliners and are purchased by other aircraft makers, Transneft and Roskosmos affiliates, manufacturers of electronic parts, etc.

Innotekhmet is currently preparing to launch mass production of drive and stationary units which apply the aforementioned technology. The start of industrial production is scheduled for July-August 2019.

The enterprise will first focus on selling its new products in Russia and then expand to foreign markets, including the European Union and CIS.

"We intend to accumulate RUB 500mln worth of finished goods and achieve target sales volume by the end of 2019," company representatives stated.

Innotekhmet is competing against foreign manufacturers of metal cutting tools and milling accessories, e.g. EWS Weigele GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) and GERARDI (Italy).

Loan and Marketing

Innotekhmet points out that its participation in INDUSTRIA Award created an additional promotional advantage.

"First, our nomination for the Award is a point of pride for the entire company. Our facilities are located in the Kaluga Region, and the whole region is now looking up to us. When we caught the attention of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, we received a strong promotional boost and gained access to much wider opportunities. Second, our nomination for the government award is a strong marketing point which we emphasize when we present our products to potential buyers," Innotekhmet pointed out.

In 2016, the company also obtained financial support from Russia's Industrial Development Fund (IDF), which provided a RUB 150mln loan. The total cost of new production facilities is estimated at RUB 300mln.

"The main competitive advantage of Innotekhmet products is their ability to operate in aggressive cutting conditions while maintaining high precision, which allows for high-tech and highly efficient processing of various materials, including tough steel," the IDF said.

Every year developers of unique technologies and products submit their projects for the National Industrial Award INDUSTRIA. The conferral of the Industrial Oscar has become an INNOPROM tradition and will be held for the sixth time in 2019. The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov is the Chair of the Award Board.

The application process is now closed. INDUSTRIA-2019 nominees will be announced by June 20. Members of the Award Board will determine the winner by a secret ballot prior to the beginning of INNOPROM. The winner will be announced during the Trade Fair at the Official Award Ceremony. We invite your participation in official events and exhibition of the tenth anniversary INNOPROM.
